I’m not quite sure what happened this past week, but its suddenly truly winter around here. We’ve been pretty spoiled so far, but last weekend was brutal. I know this for a fact because last Saturday I made it back to my old stomping grounds at Temple University for a graduation photo session. And anyone who has ever spent any time on Temple’s main campus knows how it’s always about 10 degrees colder there with the infamous wind tunnel that blows down Polett Walk. Last weekend was no different, When I stepped out of my car, even all bundled up, I was dying. My client though, she was a trooper.

I met Christina a few years back when we were looking to hire a new graphic design associate on our team. I remember discussing the position with her and how excited she was that one of the benefits of the position would give her the opportunity to go back to school while working.
Well, here she is – a few years later – with a shiny, new master’s degree from the Fox School of Business. All while working as a full-time designer and running her own Etsy shop of beautiful hand-lettered creations – Tiny Quill Pens. I’m so happy for this super-talented and driven woman.
I was also excited when she reached out and asked me to do a graduation photo session with her to celebrate her accomplishment. What a great way to mark this important milestone. Especially during a time of covid restrictions when most Universities are still doing all virtual ceremonies. Graduates have had so much taken away from them this year. A graduation photo session is a fun way to celebrate this achievement, and way more exciting than listening to three hours of speeches. (In my humble opinion.)
Leading up to the session, we had gorgeous sunny days in the 40’s and 50’s. But the day of the shoot, the high was 30 with a wind chill of 18. And the winds were relentless. We discussed rescheduling, but she assured me she would be fine in her dress and regalia. So I agreed as long as she was comfortable, and we made sure we spent as much time as possible getting shots indoors before moving outside.
Even with the bitter temperature, her frozen hands and feet after getting wet from the champagne pop, and the wind that kept whipping her tassel and gown all over the place, we had a lot of fun. Her boyfriend even tagged along to help hold her stuff and be her hype man, and we included him a few shots. I’m so glad we did. They are so sweet. And we got some beautiful images on this winter day in Philly.
Congrats again, Christina!
