Earlier this year, I spent a lovely morning with award winning textile and quilt artist Season Evans for a personal branding session.
Season recently moved back to the Philadelphia area after spending a decade on the west coast. She reached out to me after settling into her new studio in Manayunk, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Northwest Philadelphia.
Season is a self-taught quilter with a background in creative writing. She creates one-of-a-kind art pieces and installations, as well as beautiful contemporary, functional quilts. She states that her practice,
“revolves around honoring the quilting traditions of the past while connecting the stories of contemporary life through art and craft.” and that her goal is to “elevate quilting to an art form while celebrating the craft community.”
Season’s art is incredibly soothing. With a bold mix of modern, graphics in repetitive linear patterns, it’s easy to be mesmerized by her work. I’m always inspired while spending time with other artists, and this day was no exception.

For her branding session, Season wanted to capture a collection of images for various social media and online outlets. We shot a variety of headshots in and around her studio, as well as images that showcase her creative process while at work. Her studio was a dream to work in, with a gorgeous light, and full of textures, colors and a creative energy that was easy to capture while watching her work.
It was so nice getting to know Season while learning her creative process. We enjoyed bonding over our love of art, our shared taste in music, and the fact that we both have two daughters roughly the same age. And I thoroughly enjoyed the extra dose of creative inspiration she gave me after spending time with her.

A note of thanks from Season
“Laurel was wonderful to work with for a branding session. She quickly put me at ease and made the session comfortable, professional, and relaxed. Laurel has a great eye for lighting and capturing a person in their element. She understood my style and brand identity and created beautiful photographs. I will definitely work with her again.”
